The American Psychoanalytic Association’s Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Teachers' Academy has the goal of nurturing and developing the psychoanalytic educators of the future. The Academy will provide the opportunity for clinical teachers in psychiatry residency, psychology graduate and social work graduate programs to engage in a professional development program designed to facilitate interest in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy, and help them increase their teaching effectiveness with trainees. The program supports the attendance of six teachers each year (two each from psychiatry, psychology and social work) at APsaA’s National Meeting. The program consists of specially-designed Academy programs, meetings with master teachers, individualized mentoring, and the opportunity to learn together to develop their individual teaching work.
Because the goal of the Academy is to promote effective dissemination of psychoanalytic and psychodynamic ideas to new audiences, applicants to the Academy should have some prior experience in teaching about psychoanalysis or psychodynamic therapy, and have a course or a clinical rotation that they are creating or developing further. Those who teach in settings with less psychoanalytic or psychodynamic resources are especially attractive applicants. There is no preference for teachers who have previously undergone psychoanalytic training. |
