American Psychoanalytic Association Hires New Executive Director

New York, NY – January 08, 2019 - The American Psychoanalytic Association has hired Thomas Newman as its new executive director. Mr. Newman started on November 19th and took over for the previous executive director, Dean Stein, who retired after 16 years of leadership.  

Mr. Newman has extensive non-profit management experience from leading finance and administration efforts at several organizations including the American Academy in Rome, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, and Heritage Health and Housing. Most recently he served as the managing partner of Lehmann Maupin contemporary art galleries. Mr. Newman started his career in corporate finance as an analyst at Citibank N.A. and later worked as a vice president at Green River Partners and Houlihan Lokey. He holds an M.B.A. in finance from NYU's Stern School of Business and a B.A. in history from Northwestern University.

In this position, Mr. Newman will be responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. He will work closely with the association’s executive council and staff to bolster priorities such as public advocacy, scientific research, and revitalization of the psychoanalytic field.
